Getting physical outdoors is not only great for your physical health, but your mental health as well. There are tons of activities that allow people of all ages, and abilities to get outside, and in touch with nature.
Fishing
An easy, and relaxing way to spend time outdoors is to try your luck at fishing. The San Fernando Valley has a few lakes within the valley itself, and others less than an hour away. It does not take a high level of physical fitness to enjoy the benefits of fishing. Fishing is a great start to getting folks up, and moving- with plenty of breaks in between.
Archery
Archery is great for those looking for a healthy focus. Archery will work the upper body, and archers have to walk downrange to retrieve their arrows. It’s a great activity for those who like to keep track, and set “Step Counter” goals. There are a variety of styles, and a few local shops, near the archery ranges to help beginners get themselves, and their equipment set up properly.
Hiking
Hiking is a great, and inexpensive way to get moving, and enjoy the natural beauty of the outdoors. It is not only great exercise, but therapeutic as well. There are thousands of hikes surrounding the San Fernando Valley, and within an hour’s drive there are thousands of different trails to choose from. Everyone from the absolute novice, to the hardcore backpacker can find enjoyable hikes to meet there skill levels close to home. Don’t forget to take a camera!
