History :
Hip hop began around the late 1960’s in the city of New York. People with no prior dance training began dancing in the street, making up moves as they danced. However, these dance moves were inspired by African dancing. When it first started in was performative, but informal. A form of hip hop: breaking, came from the east coast of the United States. Another form of hip hop: popping and locking came from the west coast. Each coast developed its own style and was blended as one to become hip hop. As the moves became institutionalized (for example, breaking, popping, locking, etc.) the dance shifted to formal dance venues. As time went on, hip hop also began to implement different styles of dance into the dance style. Today, hip hop is used in many dance videos and danced by many people of different nationalities.
