What are the benefits of Physical Activity?

  • Physical Activity is the best thing you can do stay/get fit and be healthy.  It helps you feel strong and energetic; to do all the things you like to do. It also helps you focus better, feel, think, and sleep better, stay at a healthy weight, build lean muscle, lose fat, keep your bones and joints strong, and it lowers your risk for serious health problems.

How much physical activity do I need?

  • It is recommended that you get about 30 minutes of physical activity, a couple times a week.

Am I too old to exercise?

  • No. There are different ways to stay active. The important thing is to be active. Inactivity can be harmful to your body. For those who may have pre-existing conditions, consult your physician, and use your best judgement.

What is the best exercise for older folks?

  • The best thing to do first is to consult with your doctor. Once the doctor clears you, you can do Aerobic exercise, Strengthening exercises, and flexibility and stretching, and balancing exercises.

Should I see a doctor prior to starting a fitness routine? 

  • Yes. First make sure with your doctor, that you can partake in different physical activity, especially if you suffer from anything that might limit what you can do.

  • Yes- Exercise is safe, as long as you follow the safety rules of the physical activity you are participating in.

Do I need special clothing, or equipment?

  • The clothing you wear to work out is just as important as bringing water with you. Clothing has many functions, and it is important to choose the right outfit for the activity you are performing and for the conditions you will be performing it in. With a little preparation, you can choose the perfect clothing for your workout.
